Mothers and arithmetic

I would like to share a beautiful story that I just read today. It was included in the circular to parents for March from my daughter’s school.

It speaks of a mother’s daily sacrfices in our lives just to give her family the best her love can give. This was supposed to be a math lesson… yet, as the story progresses, it is one simple proof of a mother’s love and sacrifice. Hope you like it.

Mothers and arithmetic

A teacher in one of the public schools put this question to little James in the Match class, “James, suppose your mother made a cake and there were ten of you at the table - your mother and father and eight children. How much of the pie you would get?”

“A ninth ma’am,” was James prompt answer.

“No, no, James. Now pay attention,” said the teacher. “There are ten of you. Ten, remember. Don’t you know your fractions?”

“Yes ma’am,” was the swift reply of little James, “I know my fractions. But I know my mother, too. She’d say she didn’t want any.”

Sometimes we are not aware of this little sacrifices that our mother is doing for us. We think that it’s just normal and it’s part of our daily family life.

Guess again.

I honestly believe that mothers are God’s great gift to us, and is the best reflection of His love for us…

even if we don’t take notice of that love and ‘little’ sacrifices…

Lovely story. My mother had passed away years ago. But she still had the power over me - her words, her good traits, her all-around stoutness of heart. Oh, how you set me off. Now, I definitely miss her. *sighs*

Mothers are God’s gift to His children. Mothers epitomize God’s sacrificial love for all His creation. Mothers are selfless and give all of themselves without any thought for recompense. Thanks for the inspiring post. God bless you always.
